I have put together two books: one is called Motifs and borders of Romanian Inspiration and the other is Sampler and folk motifs.
Both books have as inspiration Romanian motifs but there also influences of the most countries of Europe.
From recognized researchers as well as from my humble observations and research it appears that some of the German motifs appear the same or modified in other European countries, such as Romania
As part of Romania, Transylvania was under the Austro-Hungarian occupation for around 200 years as well as under German leadership. It seems that the new comers as well as the locals had great deal of influence in each other lives and culture. This has influenced also the development of needlecrafts, including cross-stitch which was one of favourite needlework crafts in Romania and therefore similar motifs can be found all over the country even in places where German, Austrian and Hungarian influence was less stronger than in Transylvania.
As I am Romanian, I had access to numerous books and old items from which I have got my inspiration for these books.
Motifs and borders of Romanian Inspiration
This book is ready to order. It has 127 motifs and borders. Some are original (taken from old national costumes, antique tablecloths or other items), some are new creations but inspired by the old designs. Needless to say that they can be used for so many different projects that only your imagination can be a limit of their use. Please some of the border designs used to create tablecloths like the Twisted Ribbon and the one inspired by an Hungarian motif which is around 200 years old and came actually from China.
